Ron Silvester 1938 Chev Coupe
From an original watercolour by David Irving this Limited Edition print depicts this New Zealand racing legend. Owned by the late Ron Silvester this car was built and tweeked by Jimmy Walker. Originally a 1938 Coupe it was chopped and channeled then re-powered. Running a stroked 327-cid Chev its 370-cid small block put out approx 500 Horses. This was achieved with Mondello prepared cylinder heads, Isky valve train, Mallory ignition, and fed by 6X 2 barrel Strombergs. Transferring that power was a Tilton triple plate clutch into a Muncie rock crusher gearbox. A LSD in a 55 Chev housing distributed the power to GoodYear racing slicks 11" on the front and 12" on the back. Suspension was a solid eye beam front axle with a leaf spring rear. This car was very competetive in the 1960s and into the early 70s running in the Sports or All comers saloon classes. Still maintained by son Grant Silvester this car is still in racing trim today.
